Hijama (Cupping Therapy)
Traditional wet and dry cupping delivered safely under professional supervision.
Overview
Hijama, also known as cupping therapy, is a traditional treatment in which suction cups are applied to the skin to encourage blood flow and relaxation of the underlying tissue. At PainFix Physiotherapy Clinic we offer Hijama as a complementary therapy alongside our evidence-based physiotherapy services.
Every session is performed by trained practitioners using single-use, sterile equipment in a clean, private treatment room. We assess your suitability first, explain each step, and combine cupping with physiotherapy guidance where appropriate so you get safe, well-rounded care.

Treatment Process
Assessment
We review your medical history and confirm Hijama is suitable and safe for you.
Preparation
The treatment area is cleaned and sterile, single-use equipment is prepared.
Cupping
Suction cups are applied for a controlled time; wet cupping includes tiny, superficial scratches.
Aftercare
We clean the area, advise on skin care and give guidance for the following days.
Evidence & Our Approach
Research on cupping therapy is still developing. Some studies suggest it may provide short-term relief from certain types of musculoskeletal pain and muscle tension, but the overall quality of evidence is limited.
At PainFix, we position Hijama as a complementary therapy — not a replacement for physiotherapy, medication or medical treatment. We are transparent about what it can and cannot do, and we recommend it only when it is appropriate for you.
When to Avoid / Tell Us
- Bleeding disorders or use of blood-thinning medication
- Pregnancy (unless cleared by your doctor)
- Skin infections, wounds or inflammation at the treatment site
- Uncontrolled diabetes or very fragile skin
- Severe anaemia or a recent significant illness
- Always tell us about your medical history so we can keep you safe.
